Priorities focus your actions to improve business performance

Priorities illustrated by 2 hearts and the words: Do what you Love.
Priorities can bring forth great accomplishment. What’s your priority?

Priorities Always Focus YOUR Actions
to Improve YOUR Performance
& YOUR Business’s Performance

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule,
but to schedule your priorities.”
~Stephen Covey

Priorities always concentrate your actions. This shouldn’t be a newsflash. I hope it isn’t anyway! Yet, often times we forget to prioritize our priorities? Silly, isn’t it? How does prioritizing impact YOUR Performance or YOUR Business’s Performance? Over-simplified, if you don’t prioritize you are impeding your success. Ready to dive deeper?

Just as Covey’s quote states, your schedule should be filled with YOUR priorities. It helps you keep at the top of your mind what is most important. If you concentrate your mental energy on your priorities you’ll be focused on what can bring you greater accomplishment. How does this happen?

“The bottom line is, when people are crystal clear about the most important priorities of the organization and team they work with and prioritized their work around those top priorities, not only are they many times more productive, they discover they have the time they need to have a whole life.”  ~Stephen Covey

Stephen Covey was a great teacher. His further explanation helps us understand the impact prioritizing provides regarding YOUR Business’s performance. Gaining clarity of your priorities streamlines everything. Ultimately, identifying your priorities supports your effectiveness through efficiency.

At other times we have unexpected events occur. This requires us to re-prioritize what is important and how we are going to spend our resources. You already know this if you’ve had surgery or an accident with a significant recovery. All the sudden everything changes.

I remember when I had my motorcycle accident. It brought everything came to a screeching halt. My spring and summer were nothing as planned. Almost 2.5 years later we are still dealing with some of the adjustments that had to be made. As Marilu Henner says, “Like it or not, the world evolves, priorities change and so do you.” I’m pretty sure every Business Owner can relate to this!

As you are reading this, I’m out of the office for the whole day. This is about priorities. It’s a day of celebrating partnerships: 33 years ago I married and exceptional man. Yes, we still really like being with eachother 🙂 Happy Anniversary Honey! We’ll be Harley riding to take in the autumn colors on one of the last warmer days of the year.

Then of course we are back to work. I’m putting the finishing touches on my 10 Keys to Boost YOUR Blogging Expertise Presentation. I’ll be delivering this on October 30th for Wisconsin Business Owners (see the p.s. below for details).

PRIORITIES ACTION ITEM:

Making time for what matters is an important practice. It will become a priority once you make this routine. Take 30 minutes today and look at the rest of this calendar year. Are your priorities being reflected appropriately on your calendar? If not get busy correcting this misalignment.

I believe this last quote sums it up nicely:
“Action expresses priorities.” ~Mahatma Gandhi
