In Brilliant Breakthroughs for the Small Business Owner: Fresh Perspectives on Profitability, People, Productivity, and Finding Peace in Your Business (Vol. 2), I make the case for Inbound Marketing. I believe that there are three compelling reasons why small business owners should be exploring this marketing strategy. While it can be a significant investment of time and resources, it will position you for massive future success.

Customer Behavior Is Changing

Long gone are the days when you could depend on a great location and storefront to sell for you. It’s also unrealistic to think that traditional advertising methods will have the same impact as they did back in the day.

21st Century consumers are online. They’re researching, comparing, and often completely bypassing salespeople in their buying process. They demand access to information about you and your products or services 24/7. And, if they can’t find what they’re looking for, they’ll move on and give their business to someone else, who DID give them what they wanted!

Inbound marketing relies heavily on the new “Platinum Rule.” Treat your customers and leads exactly how THEY want to be treated. This means meeting them where they are – online.

Sustainability

If your business is here for the long-haul, it’s time to get serious about Inbound marketing. Just like your personal reputation, your online reputation takes time to build. Want to show up at the top of the Google searches? The Google algorithm will need time to vet you, and will want consistent feedback from all over the internet to believe that you belong there.

Your Inbound Marketing efforts are cumulative. First, you’ll use key tactics to get in front of your target audience. Then, you’ll use content to help strengthen your sales process. Finally, you’ll see results that include more people in your sales funnel, because you’ve built trust with your current customers, and the search algorithms.

The Key To Entrepreneurial Success

True entrepreneurs are building businesses that they’re able to step away from – they run themselves. Along with that goal, comes the potential for selling. Many business owners are surprised to find out the process behind a business valuation. One of the key factors in the calculation is the evaluator’s confidence in your future cash flow. Inbound marketing will not only help you build a sustainable sales pipeline, but it will help you prove it. The beauty of Inbound is that it is 100% measurable, and can be counted on as a key performance indicator.

If You’re Still Not Convinced…

If these three reasons haven’t convinced you to explore Inbound, read my chapter in Brilliant Breakthroughs for the Small Business Owner (Vol. 2). In it, I go into more detail about the methodology, and give you simple guides to tactics, key metrics to measure, practical application, and even a few cautions. First, you’ll gain an understanding of Inbound. Then, I’ll give you some ideas to show you how to implement it in your business.
