Success and Failure go hand in hand – relax

Success and Failure: depicted by two children playing a video game and cheering because they won!
Success and Failure are part of YOUR Business’s Success. Embrace both to attain success quicker!

Success and Failure often go
hand-in-hand in business

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure
with no loss of enthusiasm.”
~Winston S. Churchill

Success and failure are commonly spoken in the same sentence or story. Have you found this to be true? I have. The more research I do on how successful people have become such, the more I notice the experience of success and failure. Failure is not unique. It is the norm for most Businesses.

I continue to hear many Business Owners discuss how they are afraid of failure – and success for that matter! This is why I’m sharing some of these quotes with you today. These quotes aren’t glib. They are from people who had been in the trenches. As they marched on the road to their success, they didn’t stop. In fact they aligned themselves with others who could better assist them in accomplishing their goal. Gee, that may be an important clue for you.

“I have not failed.
I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
~ Thomas A. Edison

Edison is a very common figure when the success and failure conversation appears. Why? He outright owned his journey of not meeting his goal/s. Of course being a prolific inventor, he was extremely familiar with being unsuccessful. Click this former post: To read more about what Edison’s genius can teach us about business success.

Success and Failure: Real World Applications

When I first started my career as an Executive Recruiter I was blessed to run across Edison’s quote. That job required 80 – 100+ phone calls each day to assure success. My thoughts were, “If Edison can try something 10,000 times before it works correctly, so can I!” Embracing un-success was what led me to success.

I really don’t think failure occurs as often as we believe. I believe we learn many different ways not to do something. What people call failure, I typically dub as un-success or an experiment. When I work with my clients I invite them to an experiment. We start the journey experimenting what will work best for them and their business. They have such joy when they discover it!

Many people have purchased a product named WD-40. What most people don’t know is WD-40 is a success and failure story. The inventors, who understood the experimentation concept, conducted 40 experiments to attain the correct formula. And that’s how it acquired its name. Click here to read more: we wrote about WD-40 awhile ago.

My humble advise to Business Owners: Keep moving forward when it’s difficult. Any progress will lead you to a new discovery and ultimately success. Last, I leave you with one more quote about success and failure:

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.
In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats,
so you can know who you are, what you can rise from,
how you can still come out of it.”
~ Maya Angelou
