Business Strategy: Powerfully Engaging With YOUR Potential Customers

YOUR BUSINESS RESCUE COACH ASKS YOU:
Do you know how to speak with potential customers?
Are you at a loss as to what you could say to gain customers?

This past week I attended an event that had over 100 entrepreneurs peddling their offerings (products or services). Yet, I was amazed to see that half of them didn’t stand to engage in a conversation, say “hello”, or engage in any other type of conversation. Giving credit where credit is due, some of them were and even fewer were wonderfully dynamic and eager to begin new relationships and potentially a new customers – you know who you are, take a bow 🙂

If you were there and are now holding my card, congrats your business will blossom because you know how to engage with customers! You are in a special group of business professionals who understand the most effortless way to sell something isn’t necessarily to sell it at all! Instead, we focus on building relationships and sharing our offerings… and doesn’t that just work like a charm?

Engaging with what’s in your environment

But let’s talk about the majority of what I witnessed: I saw business owners, who paid top dollar for this venue in Chicago, sit on their butts or not even engage in conversation with me as I was in their “booth” (and I walked past most booths 3 or 4 times). I know, it’s sad to hear this, isn’t it?  But here is the worst part:  after I engaged them into conversation, this is the group that consistently griped the loudest that their sales were bad…. hmmm…

Conversely, last week, I was walking into the grocery store and some peppy young girls approached me and asked me if I would donate to the Children’s Hospital. I told them I had no cash then, but would stop on the way out. Guess what, when I came out the door they escorted me over to their booth while naturally engaging me in conversation. Then I asked them why they were raising money. They said, “We want to help other kids who can’t have as much fun as we are this summer”. So do you think they get it? Yep and I let them know it as we spoke for a bit, and then rewarded them with my donation. What amazed me the most was they then wanted to give me a “thank you gift” for helping them achieve their goal. Do these girls have it all figured out or what?!?!?
