teach about business strategies?


The movie “Tucker: A Man and His Dreams” demonstrates the business strategies of a leader.

Business Strategies via watching movies… Does it get any better than this?

Today, we share 3 Business Strategies via “Tucker” (1988) movie.

If you are doubting your cutting-edge idea, this is the movie for you! Lucasfilms created this star-studded cast, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, to produce outstanding performances of a true story. My husband and I watched this movie and he was so inspired that he went a researched Tucker and his cars after viewing it 🙂 I was busy thinking about all the inventors and innovators standing true to their vision.

Jeff Bridges has a very dynamic role as Tucker, who I would say lived larger than life itself. Tucker is in love with life, his wife and children, and his dream: to make the world better. Idea after idea – all fresh and revolutionary. He continued to come up with different strategies when one didn’t succeed. He didn’t stop! Even when it looked like there was nothing left. I’m not going to spoil this at all… really, just watch it and make a comment about what impacted you most. This movie is loaded with awesomeness and I will only share 3 strategies even though it offers many more!

Know your partners before you sign a contract

When Tucker finds partners to assist him in actualizing his vision, he trusts them and isn’t aware of some contractual agreements. One could say he was shanghaied by his strongest business partner. Strategies of success include knowing your partners and knowing what it is your contracts. And of course, having contracts for clarity’s sake!

Strategy #1 Pondering: Do you know who you are going into a relationship with for business? Have you thoroughly read your contract agreement BEFORE you sign it?

Contracts, or signed agreements of expectations, is the best way to conduct business. Within the past month, I have reviewed 2 of my clients’ contracts to assure key points of expectations and clearly state what is appropriate for them to fulfill their business strategies and goals successfully. Even if you don’t have a lawyer or business coach to assist you, make sure you know what you are signing. TIP: One of my professors of first-year Law told us, “Make every contract as simple as possible – thorough, but short and sweet”. I encourage you to do the same 🙂

Introducing your most “genius” idea

This is a story of a man with great vision. He is always looking at life differently than others. Even when he is listening to a legal case he is doing a rough drawing of his next idea to impact humanity in a favorable manner! His strategies to produce his vision are fresh (so fresh they were even questionable to many). His strategies to raise funds were fresh… much more common today. Even his strategies to market his car were so fresh that the Big 3 Auto manufacturers were trying to shut him down!

Strategy #2 Pondering: What is your most “genius” idea? You know, the one outside of the box?

I believe Tucker had the same intensity of genius that Steve Jobs shared with the world. What’s yours? Today, everyone is looking for fresh ideas. Today, new ideas are being accepted because of previous courageous innovators. My business is one of them. I meld the spiritual/faith-based practices and the best business practices together to create something fresh: an integrative business or holistic business, or heart-based business or even an authentic business as some are calling it. What is it that you are tinkering with in your mind and heart? Want to talk to someone about this? Never say never to your passion

The tagline for this movie was: “When they tried to buy him, he refused. When they tried to bully him, he resisted. When they tried to break him, he became an American legend. The true story of Preston Tucker.” Impressive isn’t it? One of Tucker’s main strategies was to never say never to his passion. It worked for him! It was charged to him. It was his fuel and he/it was contagious! His diligence, dedication, and drive kept his dream alive regardless of whatever the adversities were.

Strategy #3 Pondering:  How often do you take your stand for what motivates you? Do you allow people or circumstances to dictate your level of progress or success? Too often when things get difficult I see people give up on their dream. It might be time to find some new strategies to support new actions. Sometimes it just needs a little tweak – some fine-tuning and then it’s all there. Yet for some reason, people just give up on the last couple of steps to secure their dream, their success! Stay true to what you know is good. Be tenacious as to what you know is true! Every day make a concerted effort to diligently stay dedicated to YOUR “YES!”  You can do it if you allow your passion and wisdom to guide you 🙂
