Do you know what experts say the #1 skill is to your success? Listening! No matter who you are and what you do if you are a great listener, you will be more successful. If you aren’t a great listener there are a few tips to help you become a better listener and more successful at whatever it is you do!
I’ll share a little secret with you…. Back in the late 1990s, I took a program that really helped me understand the importance of being a good listener. It was really beneficial that I took it when I was an executive recruiter and also had a deal of training regarding how to ask the “best” question (to drill down and get the information you are really seeking)! So imagine how a great listener and superb question ask-er go hand in hand 🙂 I was able to ask a question and like a laser get right to the heart of what we needed to know AND because I was a great listener, I was able to make sure we really understood each other.
Today, the greatest compliment anyone can pay me (while in a phone conversation) is, “Are you there?” or “Can you hear me?” Why? It means that I am listening superbly 🙂

When reading the 2 lists of bad and good habits, why don’t you comment which one drives you crazy when others do it and which one you choose to work for the next month. When others “multi-task”, it’s so obvious they aren’t engaged in the conversation which that could change in an instant. Also, I’ll work on the 2nd improvement suggestion this month. And you?
