Danny Hadas Headshot
Danny Hadas reveals the real answer for creating work teams who feel valued.

In Brilliant Breakthroughs for the Small Business Owner: Fresh Perspectives on Profitability, People, Productivity, and Finding Peace in Your Business – Vol  3, Business Author Danny Hadas shares his wisdom by introducing “Workplace Innovation: The Path to Producing Results for Your Business”. Danny’s zest and depth of understanding how people tick and what makes the tick is phenomenal! In the book, he reveals his step-by-step innovative approach to improving the employee experience. Additionally, it’s one that truly delivers high impact for your people and your business’s profitability.

The following is what Danny Hadas wants to share with you:

The Circumstance:

The other week I was leading a session on employee experience innovation, and I received this question: “How do I share feedback with my manager when I’m afraid he’ll think I’m stupid or that I don’t know how to do my job?”

My response was this: If those thoughts are present for you, open your conversation with them. Say something like, “I want to share some feedback with you, and I have to tell you, I’m afraid that by sharing you may think I’m stupid or that I don’t know how to do my job. It’s challenging for me to share this – is that okay?”

The person who asked the question was baffled. How can you be so vulnerable at work? This is so different than the typical experience you would find in a corporate culture.

“Exactly” was my response.

The Opportunity:

So often we’re thinking one thing, and saying another, or saying nothing at all. Just as often, our lingering thoughts that go unsaid drive resentment, disappointment, anger, and upset. Instead of sharing what’s right there for us, we keep it bottled up inside, or worse, we gossip with coworkers and never address the person who is at the source of our feedback.

When this happens, people in the workplace don’t have the experience of feeling safe. The absence of psychological safety results in less collaboration, more internal competition, and turnover. There’s a clear and negative impact on the bottom line.

The truth is, we’re afraid of one another at work. We’re afraid of what others will think of our effort, our opinions, our words, our dress, our behavior… we’re so afraid. We’d rather put up with a situation that doesn’t work than do anything to cause a breakthrough in the experience.

Successful workplaces of the future will be the ones where fear has been driven out. People are free to be and free to act. Feedback is seen as a gift and teams who collaborate actively request it to drive innovation throughout the organization.

One thing is true of all businesses, large and small alike: people power their performance and people drive results. What kind of results do you get when your people are paralyzed by fear? ~Danny
