Business Strategy: Your Business and You Re-united this Summer!

YOUR BUSINESS RESCUE COACH ASKS YOU:

OK, I admit it… right about now, if it hasn’t happened already, most business owners will lose their mind. Yep, even some business owners abandon their business and become summertime fools. Now enjoying summertime, especially when you live in more northern areas, is very important. This summertime fun definitely keeps you balanced; however, sometimes I see business owners get “Summertime Business Dementia”. Is this you?

What am I talking about? Well, do you skip out of the office/work as much as possible- just because it is summer? Now, this isn’t a bad thing if your business is operating well – at a profit. But, if you are beating your head against the wall, maybe it’s time to look at your discipline to do what you must to keep your numbers strong this summer.

WARNING:If you are pleased with your business’s performance (AKA: Profit),
then you don’t need to read further!

Why should you avoid Summertime Business Dementia?

Well, it always comes down to balance of (a) generating marketing and sales activities and (b) sales closes or revenue. Are you actively promoting your business non-stop? Truthfully, most of us aren’t!

So why is this so important? When fall comes and you are wrapping up your 3rd quarter, you are going to be scratching your head and wonder what happened. Answer: You were foolish by not keeping your promotion-sales flow strong during the summer.

I call this concept a pipeline. Think of a line of pipe that can have all sorts of water (from different sources) trickling into it regardless of how far the pipe is in length. Imagine at one end you have a faucet – where your sales efforts are converted into a closed sale/cash/revenue. When you open your faucet are you getting a trickle or a steady flow?

If you are diligently keeping your promotional activities consistent, you will have a consistent sales flow… but if you don’t – you won’t! Summertime is when this typically happens. I encourage you to enjoy this summer, with balance, so you don’t become the summertime fool come fall.  If you already have noticed your promotional activities dwindling – be wise, and correct it now so you still have a good 3rd quarter and a solid 4th quarter 🙂

  1. Okay–I’m guilty of this!!! Our summer season is soooo short here in Illinois (not as short as folks living in the Rockies though!)–I’ve goofed off when I shouldn’t. Thanks for the reminder to get my head back in the game!
