Ever wonder why everyone talks about goals, but very few people accomplish them? Well, that's because this stuff isn't always so easy- especially when most people skip the simplest; yet, very most important step of the process... writing your goal down on paper! Now if that was the only secret, there wouldn't be so much material on Goals. Right?
By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion
the process of becoming the person you most want to be.
~ Mark Victor Hansen
So why might you be interested in achieving a goal? Usually goals provide betterment for a person or organization. With a desire for the betterment, there tends to be an awareness of something not being as good as it could be. Sometimes this is labeled as failure. Most often failure is not an accurate reflection of why you choose to achieve a new goal. Awareness is the reason most goals are created. It's when this awareness of 'gaining or releasing something' occurs that change becomes a focus.
You gain strength, experience, and confidence by every experience
where you really stop to look fear in the face...
You must do the thing you cannot do.
~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Are you interested in gaining something that has been eluding you? Or what about eliminating something in your life which no longer serves you? Believe it or not, the two concepts of gaining or eliminating have a different set of rules for securing your success!
Close your eyes and imagine your goal. Do you see it in your life and recognize how it is able to enhance your life? Really, close your eyes and see how things can actually be different then they are right now. Did you notice that when you envisioned this change, your attitude is uplifted? If so, this may be an excellent goal for you to strive toward.
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.
Live the life you've imagined.
~ Henry David Thoreau
Goals, just like people, come in many shapes and sizes. There are a few rules of how to accomplish some more complex goals as well. What about short-term versus long-term goals? Well, you guessed it- different approaches for success! Have you ever started on a goal, completed some of the work, and never quite accomplished the goal? Ever wonder what that is all about? What about doing a lot of the work and then not being able to complete the goal? The short answer is preparation and alignment.
Interested in getting the comprehensive abridged lesson of Accomplishing Goals? If you're like most folks, you are way too busy to buy a bunch of books and start reading. Of course the really puzzling part comes when you try to figure out which guy's process is better than the other guy's process. Even listening to CDs or podcasts will not give you clarity as to how you should do this. So, why not get the best practices of the experts in the field and have accountability added to your process? You know- someone to be your companion? yes, it really can be just this simple!
Often, if people can write down their goal, and figure out a way to implement the necessary changes, they often forget about accountability. Accountability, especially for a bigger or ongoing goal, is absolutely critical to success. Let's not forget another really important aspect of a goal-sustainability. Now all this becomes very logical, practical, and tactical once you have a "walk-through" of a simple, effective process to achieving your goal. The best part is that you can repeatedly apply this process for the rest of your life!
Achievement seems to be connected with action.
Successful men and women keep moving.
They make mistakes, but they don't quit.
~ Conrad Hilton
